Fragment is delighted to present Dagnini’s solo project at NADA Villa Warsaw. It marks the artist's first comprehensive solo presentation in Eastern Europe. The overarching theme of all elements presented in the installation is the apocalypse within the context of global crises and the ways of navigating through these events: whether in fear or denial, routine, and labor.
The installation comprises hand-embroidered vintage tapestries converted in digital-inspired memes, paintings, videos, and large-scale sculpture. The latter is crafted from artificial ivy leaves, with branches affixed to the walls cascading down to the floor. From a distance, they appear real, and it's only upon closer inspection that one can discern each leaf, meticulously attached by hand, as an eerie individual mini-face. The branches, resembling real plants, symbolize nature reclaiming its own. Large openings resembling arches are left between the branches on the white wall, within which objects and several screens with videos are hung. The videos consist of documentation of Dagnini's performances interspersed with found footage.
Dagnini is a Saint Petersburg-born, London-based artist, working with dynamic performances and creating objects, installations, paintings, and graphics. The main theme of her research is 'glitches,' manifested in both digital space and reality. Disrupting the current everyday routine is a necessary condition for her work. Dagnini has exhibited at various international venues, including Fragment Gallery (New York, USA), Smallville Space (Neuchatel, Switzerland), NADA House 2021 (New York, Governors Island), Garage Museum (Moscow, Russia), and the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia), among others.
Fragment is a contemporary art gallery founded in December 2016 and based in New York, USA, since October 2021.
