At Minor Attractions 2024, the gallery proudly showcases works by two artists, Pei Yi Tsai and Dagnini, whose practices align with its mission of fostering diverse and underrepresented voices.
Pei Yi Tsai (b. 1994 in Taipei, Taiwan; based in London, UK) graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2024. Tsai draws inspiration from a deep exploration of individual experiences and queer identity. In her representational paintings, she weaves these emotions and struggles into her work, reflecting the challenges individuals face when navigating issues of identity and societal pressure. The gender ambiguity of the figures in her paintings reflects her own queer identity, and her work delves deeply into various aspects of identity, including gender, culture, family, and personal growth. These themes run throughout her body of work, portraying the exploration of queer identity in East Asian society and the individual's role and values in a complex social environment.
Dagnini is a Saint Petersburg-born, London-based artist working with dynamic performances and creating objects, installations, paintings, and graphic art. The main focus of her research is on 'glitches,' which manifest in both digital space and reality. Disrupting the everyday routine is essential to her process. Dagnini has exhibited at various international venues, including Fragment Gallery (New York, USA), NADA Villa Warsaw (Warsaw, Poland), Smallville Space (Neuchatel, Switzerland), NADA House 2021 (Governors Island, New York, USA), Garage Museum (Moscow, Russia), and the State Hermitage Museum (Saint Petersburg, Russia), among others. For the fair, Dagnini has created a large-scale drawing on plastic.
