April Bey is pleased to announce the Equity in Collecting Program, a pilot initiative aimed at creating access and inclusion for art collectors from marginalised backgrounds. Launched in collaboration with Simon Lee Gallery, TERN Gallery and Fragment Gallery on 27 February 2023 at the close of Black history month, this program will work to support equity within art collecting by providing vouchers to bring the price of artworks down by 90% for collectors who would otherwise have no access.
The Equity in Collecting Program is aimed at groups and communities that may experience discrimination and exclusion because of unequal power relationships across economic, political, social, and cultural dimensions.
Moving deftly between painting, printmaking, collage, video, intimately scaled artist’s books, and immersive installations, April Bey uses art to counter restrictive Western modes of representation. Through Atlantica, an imagined future realm in which sustainability and Black joy are celebrated, the artist provocatively explores and critiques contemporary feminisms, generational theory, social media, AfroFuturism, AfroSurrealism, post-colonialism and constructs of race within supremacist systems.
