Ilya Fedotov-Fedorov studied genetics (bioengineering) and philology in Moscow. Thus, the main motif of Fedotov-Fedorov’s art is the use of natural scientific knowledge. Ilya Fedotov-Fedorov works with the theme of the «Other» self-identity, ecology and foreignness in reflecting on the processes of distance production in society as well as in nature, gender, and body. Artist deconstructs human’s attitudes to nature by presenting closed ecosystems, as models of power structures, ways of scientific and museological collection/classification. Media — sculpture, installations, and video.
The artist works with the theme of nature and studies the relationship between the living and the artificial in the modern cultural representation of nature. In particular, the artist explores the theme of "cuteness" of nature, when nature appears to be "сute", unprotected and fragile, gradually turning into a toy.
